The principal is starting her third year at the school and has things headed in the right direction, increasing student accountability and responsibility and tightening discipline. This is a real up and coming school that caps class size at a lower level than most Catholic Schools”

“As a parent of St. Dominic School children, I can say I am more than pleased. We are fortunate to live in a city that has great schools, but we chose St. Dominic. The teachers are amazing, extracurricular activities are super as well. I love the fact my children are being exposed to a second language even in kindergarden. The school is small which makes children learn to get along with and like all people because you will be in school with them for the next 8 years. The best part of the education is there are minimal, if any distractions in the classrooms, because the teachers do not put up with it. So there for all children are learning instead of the teachers disiplining a few children that are disrupting the class. We could not be happier with St. Dominics under the leadership of Mrs. Cherney.”

“As a former student of St. Dominic, I can say that I learned many important values because of the educational atmosphere that the school provided. Academical, however, St. Dominic failed to challenge me above the average grade level. The small class sizes and lack of faculty focus meant that each class worked as quickly as their slowest learner. I left St. Dominic to attend Shaker Schools by choice after completing 6th grade. While it was an emotional decision, Shaker Schools provided me with excellerated classes and more extra curricular options. St. Dominic is a good place to have younger kids develop into hard-working, responsible students, but the higher grade levels fail to push any academic growth. The atmosphere at St. Dominic School is slightly conservative. They do what they can with limited resourses. Unfortunatly, Shaker Schools offers more opportunities. Administration was not effective with behavior problems. Good sense of community.”

“Fair at best. Not worth the cost as the city schools are nationally competitive. This is not the place for academically gifted children as there are no offerings for bright children. If you prefer the status of telling your friends that your child atends private education perhaps. Otherwise, check other options.”

“Academic quality at St Dominic is very strong. In a city with the strong public schools and the highest tax rate in the State of Ohio, St D. has to be strong in order to compete. The music program has improved dramatically in the last couple of years. This year they competed in the Ohio State ensamble competition for the first time. Basketball is king at St D. The small school has regularily sent teams to the City Championships and last year the Boys made it to the Final 4. Sports that are not offered are shared with neighboring St Ann and Gesu. Overall, I have had two children go through St D and it has been a wonderful experience.”

“St. Dominic is a hidden jewel for families looking for a nurturing, faith based education for their children. The academic programs are solid and under the current principal advancing with new ideas. Student Achievement is measured anually with the use of the Iowa Tests of Basic skills. Music, private instrument lessons, Band,Art, Spanish in K-8th grade, and religion are included with the outstanding standard curriculum. Hot lunch, before and aftercare programs are also provided daily. Sports are offered through the Christian Youth Organization (CYO). Enrollment is capped at 25/class. With a student population averaging 200 your child is part of a family. Children are paired with prayer partners of different ages to promote understanding and appreciation for each other. Teachers,volunteers working in the school know your child by name creating a valued sense of belonging for your child. This paired with academics create a formative environment in which every child thrives.”

“A good school but not great. Not the place for your superstar learner as he/she will not be particularly challenged. Very good values, as you would expect from a Catholic school. The lower grade teachers are very good but some of the upper grade teachers are mediocre at best. It's more expensive than other surrounding Catholic schools. St Dom's really should combine with another parish to keep the cost at a reasonable level, but the parish administration likes the status of having their own parish school. If my child weren't already established there and nearing graduation, we'd move her. Good school but not really worth the cost.”
